My newest project, the shape a new world around you EP, captures exactly where I was when I began my journey at Full Sail University.
A “before” picture, by design
Every song on this EP was written and recorded before I started at Full Sail. That was intentional. I wanted to document what I knew before school, so there would be a clear line between then and now. Every project I release after this EP will reflect what I’ve learned through my degree.
Why I stepped back
Since becoming a student, I’ve taken a break from releasing music. I haven’t stopped creating. I stepped back to focus on my craft and to grow as both an artist and a person. My life has changed significantly over the past few years, and I want the next chapter of my music to reflect that.
Raw, human and intentional
Less is more. The rawer the vocal take, the more human it feels, and the more I connect with the music I release.
There’s always a tension between keeping a song raw and making it polished. I first felt it with “Come Back Down,” when I fell in love with the rough mix and had to learn to trust the mastered version.
It’s not a mistake unless you treat it as one. In music production, many errors turn into happy accidents. That doesn’t mean keeping a weak take and trying to justify it. It means using your judgment and trusting yourself as an artist.
